Terms of Use
This English translation is provided for convenience. If there is any discrepancy between this translation and the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.
These Terms of Use (these "Terms") set out the conditions of use between users and the operator (the "Operator") that provides "Bilingual Journal," a foreign language learning application including its mobile app and web app (the "Service"). By using the Service, users are deemed to have agreed to these Terms.
Article 1 (Application)
These Terms apply to all relationships between users and the Operator concerning the use of the Service. The handling of personal information is governed by the separately established Privacy Policy.
Article 2 (Accounts)
- Users can start using the Service as a guest. A registered account can use an email address and password or a supported external authentication service. Purchasing a paid plan requires registration and confirmation of the email address.
- Users are responsible for managing their own accounts and must not allow third parties to use them.
- Users can delete their accounts at any time using the feature in the Service.
Article 3 (Fees and Usage Limits)
- In addition to the free plan, the Service offers the paid plans Lite (1,480 yen per month), Plus (1,980 yen per month), and Pro (2,980 yen per month). The listed prices are web prices including tax. For in-app purchases, the price shown in each store applies. The features and usage limits of the same plan are the same regardless of where it is purchased.
- Paid plans on the web version renew automatically every month. You can cancel through the subscription management portal from "設定" (Settings) → "料金プラン" (Plans). After cancellation, you can continue to use the plan until the end of the paid period.
- Paid plans purchased in the iOS app are auto-renewable subscriptions that renew every month. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, the subscription renews with the same plan and price, and you are charged within 24 hours before the end of the period. You can turn off auto-renewal or change plans in your App Store account settings (Subscriptions). After cancellation, you can continue to use the plan until the end of the paid period. Refunds are subject to Apple's rules.
- The 7-day free trial, which does not require registering a card, is not charged automatically. After the trial ends, you move to the free plan unless you separately purchase a paid plan.
- Each plan has limits on conversation time, number of conversations, number of diary generations, and number of learning languages. Usage allowances are renewed for periods determined by the plan, and unused allowances do not carry over to the next period. The free trial has a separate allowance for the entire trial period.
- On the free plan, you can, in principle, view the body text of diaries and conversation history from the most recent 30 days. Body text outside the viewing period is not deleted immediately and can be viewed again on a paid plan.
- Deleting an account is different from canceling a subscription. Users with an active subscription should turn off auto-renewal with the place of purchase before deleting their account.
Article 4 (Prohibited Acts)
When using the Service, users must not engage in the following acts.
- Acts that violate laws or public order and morals
- Acts that place an excessive load on the servers or network of the Service, unauthorized access, and reverse engineering
- Sending large numbers of requests by automated means and circumventing usage limits
- Impersonating others, and transferring or selling accounts
- Any other acts that the Operator deems inappropriate
Article 5 (Rights to Content)
- Users may freely use content such as diaries and vocabulary generated by the Service based on their speech for their own learning purposes.
- Intellectual property rights in the programs, designs, and other content that make up the Service belong to the Operator or the rightful owners.
Article 6 (Notes on AI-Generated Content)
Conversation responses, diaries, vocabulary explanations, and similar content in the Service are automatically generated by AI, and the Operator does not guarantee their accuracy or completeness. Please use them as reference information for language learning.
Article 7 (Changes, Suspension, and Termination of the Service)
- The Operator may change the content of the Service, or suspend or end its provision, without prior notice to users.
- The Operator may be unable to provide the Service due to system maintenance, failures, suspension of external services, or similar causes, and is not liable for damages incurred by users as a result, except in cases of the Operator's intent or gross negligence.
Article 8 (Suspension of Use)
If a user violates these Terms, the Operator may suspend or restrict that user's use of the Service without prior notice.
Article 9 (Disclaimer)
The Operator does not guarantee that the Service is free of factual or legal defects. Even if the Operator is liable to a user for damages, except in cases of the Operator's intent or gross negligence, the amount of compensation is limited to the total fees the user paid for the Service in the past 12 months.
Article 10 (Changes to These Terms)
The Operator may change these Terms when it deems necessary. For important changes, we will notify users by appropriate means, such as a notice in the Service. The revised Terms take effect when they are posted on this page.
Article 11 (Governing Law and Jurisdiction)
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. If a dispute arises concerning the Service, the court having jurisdiction over the Operator's location shall be the exclusive agreed court of first instance.
Contact
The Operator's name, address, and phone number will be disclosed without delay by email upon request, with sufficient time to decide before applying for a contract. For how to request disclosure, please see the Notation Based on the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions (in Japanese).
